Overview:
CPI’s engineering department is responsible for the design, development, testing, and manufacturing support of an array of highly-engineered electromechanical products. We are looking for a talented design engineer.
This is frontline product design position in which you will discover ample opportunity to apply your talents across our diverse product spectrum, designing best-in-class solutions for some of the world’s most challenging applications within aerospace, mobile industrial, and defense application markets. We seek a candidate who can see our customers’ application challenges as opportunities for growth. We want someone with a bit of problem-solving swagger.
In addition to the usual technical qualifications, the individual that we seek will possess creative vision, hands-on mechanical abilities, and good listening skills.
Ideal candidates will also be well-organized and comfortable managing multiple projects in close cooperation with other CPI departments, as well as with our external customers.
Responsibilities:
- Develop project requirements/specifications from sales concepts and customer requests.
- Conceive, design, develop, and refine new products.
- Re-engineer, modify, or improve existing products.
- Support our production department by solving problems on the plant floor.
- Utilize advanced solid-modeling CAD design and visualization tools.
- Create finished engineering drawings of products, parts, and assemblies.
- Utilize best practices in configuration management per ISO-9001.
Minimum Requirements: BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely-related discipline Minimum of 4 years’ experience in engineering practice Fluency in solid-modeling CAD design (SOLIDWORKS preferred) Ability to create mechanical design layouts, drawings, sketches
Preferred Experience: Design experience with electromechanical products Experience with metal stamping, injection molding, and machining processes Experience working with toolroom and machine shop fabrication specialists Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably ISO-9001 Experience creating engineering drawings to industry standards such as ANSI

Location: Control Products, Inc. – East Hanover, NJ
Position Overview: Under general supervision: knowledgeable and knows how to build tools, dies, prototype parts, jigs, fixtures and gauges to specified designs. Maintains the tooling/die to produce a production part within drawing specifications. Able to operate general shop equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, etc. The toolmaker is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting assembly fixtures and performing preventative maintenance on all installed equipment to minimize downtime keeping safety as a priority. Daily review of dimensional status of production parts and taking corrective actions to improve any dimensional below set quality standards. Respond to production downtime in a timely and efficient manner to resolve any and all issues.
Tasks
- Provide the operational and technical expertise needed to maintain quality and consistency in day to day maintenance / operation of a of production equipment.
- Ability to fabricate tooling within a 0.0005″ tolerance.
- Provide operational and technical guidance to resolve product / process related issues.
- Provide technical directions to improve yields and to reduce costs.
- Continually learn and apply operational and technical leadership skills.
- Perform hands-on machine maintenance as required.
- Must adhere to all safety rules and procedures.
- Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies. Follow and comply with all safety plant standards including LOTO
- Recommend modifications to existing equipment to improve dimensional part issues, productivity and/or efficiency
- Maintain accurate documentation resulting in shared knowledge of issues and lessons learned
- Perform PM inspections as required, complete with all repairs
- Promote good housekeeping
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Technical school and minimum of 2 years related experience or training or;
- Completion of a Tool & Die apprenticeship program
- Demonstrated expertise in maintaining and troubleshooting metal stamping dies.
- The ability to provide technical guidance in troubleshooting, and die reconditioning.
- Demonstrated expertise in providing technical suggestions that improved process and or product issues.
- Demonstrated ability to work within the department and with external organizations on resolving technical issues.
- Must have ability to use all tool room equipment and measuring tools
- Must have strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Must have a good understanding of assembly line operations and functions
- Must have basic knowledge of engineering drawings (print reading, dimensions, etc.)
Work Environment
- Clean, Air Conditioned work environment.
- Ability to sit, stand, kneel, for periods of time while troubleshooting and repairing.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
